7A
Page 59

The point is that the low cost gas does not equate to enough money saved to justify the
impact to the local residents. Some may argue that some savings is justification enough.
To those, I would respond that I do not have the Machiavellian instincts to have a
negative impact on my fellow Redwood City residents for a mere $24 per year. How
would the Costeo executives, gas station supporters, and members of the Planning
Commission react to those who would be willing to sacrifice their neighborhood. and
children's health for $24 per year?

Tire Center

In regards to the tire center on the Middlefield side of the proposed warehouse, it should
be noted the door to the tire installation facility face the waU of Safe Keep Storage. The
sound echoing off of this wall will be directed to a high dens~ty residential apartment
building. Those of the commission present during the 2005 meeting where the Costeo
project was introduced might remember I commented on the impact of the sound of high
pressure impact wrench.es. and tire mounting equipment to this same residential building.
In disagreement with. the responses in the Em, due to the characteristic of this type of
noise, it will not become mere background noise. At the December 2006 Planning
Commission meeting. we heard from a resident of the apartments across the street from
the proposed tire center. She stated that while inside her residence, she could hear the tire
center noise. I urge the Planning Commission to consider the noise impacts to "day
sleepers", the people living in these buildings.

In closing. I thank you again for the opportunity to express some points for the Planning
Commission to consider regarding the Costco Project. As the local residents that will
bare the brunt of the negative impact of a 16 pump gas station added to the Costco site,
\ve, deflI"J.tively, oppose the addition of a gas station at this site. We ask the Planning
Commission to view these negatives. at1d those presented tonight by other residents as
reasons to not allow the proposed gas station to be added to the Costco site.

Keith Daum
Co-Chair
Redwood Village Neighborhood Association.
