Rdditionally, SS 88 makes a number of other changes to the mandates process,incluc3ing: • Changes annuai claims deadl'snes from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15 and also changes the late penalty from 10 percent to a rnaximum of$1,000 to a maximum ofi$10,dOQ; • Rirects the Controller to report to the Legislature on April 30 of each year detailing the amaunt of the ciaims submitted for the Feb. 15 deadline,but to also include any late claims filed by April 1; and • Requires the Controlier to pay those claims(esfimated cosfs and actual claim deficiencies}by Aug. 15, or 45 days after the budget is passed in the next fiscal year or interest then accrues.
