7. PUBLIC HEARING - <br />A. Sequoia Hospital Precise Plan remodel, retrofit and expansion project <br />Senior Planner Riordan stated the proposal before the Council and gave the <br />background. (PowerPoint presentation on file.) <br />Bruce Fukuji presented an overview of the precise plan. <br />Architect Doug Mayoras gave a presentation on the design. <br />Council Members asked various questions <br />Mayor Pierce opened the public hearing. <br />Public Comment: <br />Paula Uccelli, representing the Uccelli family, extended family and friends, spoke of <br />the award winning hospital, award winning doctors, and award winning employees. <br />She thanked them for the care and love given to her family and other families in the <br />city stating that it is now time to give them an award winning facility. <br />Mike Wasmann lives near the intersection of Edgewood and Alameda. He stated <br />that at a preview meeting at Sequoia Hospital he signed up for notification of further <br />meetings. One of his major concerns is the installation of two left turn lanes at <br />Alameda and Edgewood where he currently has some right of way area that would <br />be impacted. Because he is out of the radius of notification he asked that the City <br />should notify homeowners which may be affected by right of way acquisition, lane <br />changes, traffic and other related topics. <br />Gary Saunders, Business Manager for Plumbers and Fitters Local 467, spoke in <br />favor of the Sequoia Hospital addition, renovation and parking garage. The project <br />will provide many jobs for the members and because Sequoia Hospital has <br />committed to using all union contractors and subcontractors, and the members are <br />looking forward to doing as many jobs as possible in the next 3 to 3 -1/2 years. He <br />further stated that an important component is that all of the union members' health <br />plans include Sequoia Hospital in the networks. <br />Jocelyn Won, Business Agent for the American Federation of State, County and <br />Municipal Employees, stated that Sequoia Hospital is one of the fairest employers <br />she has ever represented members with. She stated that her members believe in <br />helping the patients to the fullest extent and that this project in improving the <br />hospital will improve the lives of the patients.
