E×HIB~T "A" <br /> <br /> CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br /> COMMUNICATIONS SUPERVISOR <br /> <br /> DEFINITION <br /> <br />To plan, organize, direct and coordinate the work of police dispatchers in the Communications Cente~, and to <br />provide administrative and technical staff support to Department. <br /> <br /> DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br /> <br /> This is a professional level position involving the full scope of responsibilities for supervisory/professional <br /> Communications Center 9-1-1 operations. Considerable use of independent judgment is required. Strong <br /> wdtten, verbal and interpersonal skills are essential for incumbent assigned to this classification. <br /> <br /> SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> <br /> General supervision is provided by the administrative Police Captain. <br /> <br /> Responsibilities inctude direct supervision of dispatchers. <br /> <br /> EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES <br /> <br /> 1. Plan, coordinate and supervise Communications Center 9-1-1 Operations. <br /> <br /> 2. Formulate polities; review and implement operations procedures. <br /> <br /> 3. Develop goals and objectives for Communications Center Operations. <br /> <br /> 4. Schedule suberdinates for shift coverage and allow for time off. <br /> <br /> 5. Supervise formalized training programs for dispatch personnel. <br /> <br /> 6. Maintain records and files in the DisPatch Center. <br /> <br /> 7. Prepare and administer Communications Center Operations budget data. <br /> <br /> 8. Supervise, train, motivate and evaluate subordinate personnel. <br /> <br /> 9. Conduct performance evaluations and implement disciplinary procedures when appropriate. <br /> <br />10. Provide responsJbie administrative and technical assistance to the administrative Police Captain; <br /> such as daily press releases and coordinate public interest stodes. <br /> <br />11. Serve as a member of vadous City and/or County committees. <br /> <br /> <br />
