6.N. - Page 1 of 9 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: May 6, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Second Reading (Adoption) of ordinance amendments to udpate the powers, duties, and term limits of <br />the Civic Cultural Commission and change its name to the Arts Commission. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Waive the Second Reading and adopt ordinance amendments to City Code Chapter 2 (Administration), <br />Article IX (Boards and Commissions) and Chapter 45 (Public Art) to update the powers, duties, and term <br />limits of the Civic Cultural Commission and change its name to the Arts Commission <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />On April 22, 2019, the City Council introduced and unanimously approved ordinance amendments to City <br />Code Chapter 2 (Administration), Article IX (Boards and Commissions) and Chapter 45 (Public Art) to <br />update the powers, duties, and term limits of the Civic Cultural Commission and change its name to the <br />Arts Commission. <br />The powers and duties of the newly named Arts Commission are found in Sec. 2.113 of the City Code. As <br />revised, the Commission is responsible for making recommendations to City Council or City Manager on <br />the following subjects: <br />• The establishment of programs which stimulate and encourage the development and <br />maintenance of the performing and visual arts in the City, and to review periodically such <br />programs. <br />• The establishment of programs memorializing or giving recognition to matters of cultural <br />significance in the City, and to review periodically such programs. <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore <br />281 <br />
