The grant of public trust lands
completes a property exchange with the State which facilitates the development of the Bradford Street
Affordable Housing, Childcare, and Open Space Project at 707-711 Bradford Street.
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Housing
BACKGROUND
On June 11, 2018, the City Council approved and authorized the City Manager to execute a Land Exchange
and Title Settlement Agreement (Exchange Agreement) with the State Lands Commission (SLC). The
Exchange Agreement was executed by Governor Brown on November 11, 2018. The property exchange
with the State was needed to continue with the development of the Bradford Street Affordable Housing,
Childcare, and Open Space Project at 707-711 Bradford Street (Project). During the development and title
review process for the Project, City staff identified that a portion of the land of the property was conveyed
to the City in trust by the SLC in the 1940s. In order to move forward with the Project, that portion of land
held in trust by the City for the State needed to be exchanged "out of the trust" with another Redwood
City -based property. Land that is held in trust is open and available to the public for navigation, commerce,
fisheries, water -oriented recreation and public access, open space, scientific study, and ecological
preservation.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
94
