6.E. - Page 1 of 5
/<ik
Redwood
CitylCallifornia
Faunded 1867
\:3aAW
DATE: May 20, 2019
SUBJECT
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
Approval of Amendment No. 4 to Agreement with CSG Consultants, Inc. for Engineering Inspection
Services
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute Amendment No. 4 to Agreement for
Professional Services with CSG Consultants, Inc. for engineering inspection services in the amount of
$300,000 for a total not to exceed amount of $727,600
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Government Operations
BACKGROUND
In adopting the FY 2018/19 budget, the City Council approved two full time engineering construction
inspector positions in the Engineering and Transportation Division of the Community Development
Department. These inspectors regularly inspect the City's capital improvement projects and utility permit
projects performed by private utility companies. While most City services are provided by staff, the City
contracts with outside firms to provide specialized expertise or to provide additional capacity during peak
work periods. At this time, one budgeted engineering construction inspector position is filled with a
regular employee, and funds from the other position were used to fund a contract position for a period
of one year beginning in September 2018. Due to the high volume of capital improvement projects under
construction, a third inspector is required, and the proposed amendment to the existing contract will
provide that support.
On December 13, 2017, staff issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Construction Inspection Services to
the eight firms on the Engineering and Transportation Division's pre -qualified consultant list for this type
of work. On January 5, 2018, five proposals were received. After review of the proposals and interviews
with two firms selected to move forward in the process, staff selected CSG Consultants, Inc. as the most
qualified firm to provide construction inspection services.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
103
