To date, the Public Works Services Department (PWS) has converted approximately
2,200 street lights to more energy efficient LED lights. With the planned installation of at least 400 more
street lights in the upcoming year, the City will have converted more than 50 percent of the eligible street
lights.
PWS plans to convert all remaining eligible street lights to LEDs over the next five years. Some of the street
lighting throughout the city is currently ineligible for conversion due to factors such as aesthetics
(decorative lighting that is cost prohibitive) or street lights on high voltage regulated output street light
circuits (otherwise called RO circuits).
ANALYSIS
On January 25, 2019, a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids (NIB) "LED Street Light Fixtures" was published in the
San Mateo Daily Journal with a submission deadline of 2:30 p.m. on February 13, 2019.
