6.D. - Page 1 of 24
/<ik
Redwood
CitylCallifornia
Faunded 1867
A,&/
DATE: June 10, 2019
SUBJECT
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
Agreement with Maze & Associates for Annual Professional Audit Services
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement for professional services
with Maze & Associates to perform professional audit services for the fiscal years ending June 30, 2019,
2020, and 2021, in an amount not to exceed $375,127, with an option to extend the agreement for two
additional one-year terms.
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Government Operations
BACKGROUND
The City is required to engage an independent certified public accounting firm to conduct an annual audit
of the City's financial records. The independent audit firm of Badawi & Associates, Certified Public
Accountants, was the City's auditor from FY 2011-12 through FY 2017-18. The City has a need to engage
the services of a new audit firm for FY 2018-19 through FY 2020-21.
Redwood City's Finance Division provides financial, budgetary, and accounting services for the City, as
well as the Port of Redwood City and Silicon Valley Clean Water Authority (SVCWA). In addition, the
Finance Division was recently awarded a contract to provide financial and accounting services for the
South Bayside Waste Management Authority (SBWMA) starting in FY 2019-20. In an effort to ensure a
coordinated, efficient, and timely audit process, the same audit firm is needed to perform audit services
for all four agencies, with the City as the lead agency.
On March 8, 2019, staff issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to seek independent, professional audit
services. The RFP was posted on the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) website
and was emailed directly to all twenty-three audit firms listed in the resources section of the CSMFO
website.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
62
