,_ _-~ES:djk 08/05/96 (Reso-061) <br /> 0 R T G I N A L G/Redwood City/Shared/Council <br /> <br /> 8/12/96 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 12848 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION OF INTENTION TO PARTICIPATE IN A COUNTY- <br /> WIDE ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEM <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the fire service has become a significant component in the <br />delivery of emergency medical services ("EMS") in San Mateo County, with 60%- <br />70% of any fire department's calls for EMS; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the coordinated enhancement of San Mateo County fire <br />agencies' capabilities to include advanced life support ("ALS") services could <br />result in improved public service to local communities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, according to a study commissioned by a countywide EMS <br />Task Fome, coordinated enhancement of fire service capability to include ALS <br />services may be accomplished at no additional charge to ambulance and at no <br />additional ongoing cost to cities/fire districts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the addition of fire department paramedics to the prehospital <br />care system should more adequately prepare Peninsula communities to respond <br />to emergencies during disaster situations; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the fire agencies within San Mateo County seek to be <br />recognized as a public-private partnership option in the County ALS services <br />program in the request for proposal process for ALS/ambulance service to be <br />conducted by San Mateo County in 1997; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, to become a qualified, competitive ALS provider the fire <br />service will require both extraordinary advanced preparation by county fire <br />agencies and ongoing cooperation by cities and fire agencies; therefore each <br /> <br /> <br />
