61. - Page 1 of 7 <br />6;� <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Founded 1967 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: June 24, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Approve Arts Commission's Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Funding Recommendations for Large Grants <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve the Arts Commission's proposed funding agreements for Large Grants for FY 2019-2020 <br />as delineated in Attachment A. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Community for All Ages <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Arts Commission, formerly known as the Civic Cultural Commission (CCC), on behalf of the City Council, <br />ensures that art, culture, and creative experiences are woven into the fabric of our community by being <br />an advocate for art and cultural awareness, sponsoring arts and culture through grants, and sanctioning <br />public art and events. <br />The Arts Commission receives funding from the City to support local non-profit arts and cultural <br />organizations. For Fiscal Year 2019-2020, a total of $58,896 is available for large grants (grants $1,000 and <br />more), small grants (under $1,000), and for Commission -sponsored events. The Arts Commission hosts an <br />annual large grant process and recommends grant awards for community non-profit organizations that <br />support art and cultural activities through criteria developed by the Commission. <br />ANALYSIS <br />On June 12, 2019, the Arts Commission met to consider large grant funding recommendations for Fiscal <br />Year 2019-2020. The Commission discussed the Grant Applications and allocated $40,000 of its total <br />budget for large grants and $3,350 for small grants. In sum, twenty-three local non-profit cultural and <br />arts organizations submitted large grant requests totaling $126,547. <br />113 <br />
