6.N. - Page 1 of 16 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: June 24, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />2019-2020 Extended Day Learning Services Agreement between the City of Redwood City and the <br />Redwood City School District <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute the 2019-2020 Extended Day <br />Learning Services Agreement between the City of Redwood City and the Redwood City School District in <br />an amount not to exceed $461,235 <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Community for All Ages <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department, in partnership with the Redwood City <br />School District (District), operates After School Learning Centers directly on school campuses to <br />approximately 650 children in Redwood City. The City has been a partner with the District for the past 21 <br />years serving children who would benefit from academic support and/or social and recreational <br />enrichment programs. For the 2019-2020 School Year, the City has been assigned the following schools: <br />John Gill, John F. Kennedy, and Selby Lane. There are only a total of three school sites, as opposed to a <br />total of five school sites in the past, due to the District's decision to close select campuses. <br />After School services include: tutoring; recreation; and enrichment programming, such as life skills and <br />family education opportunities. The majority of funding for the programs comes from After School <br />Education and Safety Program (ASES) State and 211t Century Community Learning Federal grants that are <br />managed by the District. <br />The City provides an after school program coordinator on each site, and maintains a 1:20 ratio of youth <br />development leaders to children.
