PROPOSED SEWER RATES Redwood City is proposing to phase in three 4.5% sewer rate increases over the next three years as shown on the table below. The proposed rate increases are designed to meet the City's wastewater system funding needs and fairly and equitably recover the costs of providing sewer service to all customers. The proposed sewer rate increases are in line with the City's longer-term strategy of adopting smaller gradual rate adjustments each year to keep rates in line with the cost of providing services. Residential customers are billed fixed monthly charges for sewer service based on the number of residential dwelling units per parcel. Multi -family accounts with 10 or more residential dwelling units are charged a reduced charge per dwelling unit based on an analysis of water use data. Non-residential customers pay usage -based sewer charges based on customer class and metered water consumption as measured in hundred cubic feet. One hundred cubic feet equals approximately 748 gallons. Non-residential bills are subject to a minimum monthly charge, which is based on the City's costs of service for each account regardless of wastewater usage. Most customers are billed by the City via a combined water and sewer utility bill. Residential customers are typically billed once every two months for utility service. Class C includes retail and other standard strength commercial accounts and hospitals. Class D includes sewer customers with moderate -high wastewater strength. Class E includes restaurants and supermarkets.
