6.H. - Page 1 of 6 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: June 24, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Final Acceptance - Hudson Street Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements Project <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, accept the Hudson Street Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements Project, and authorize the <br />release of bonds and the retention according to City procedures. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Transportation <br />BACKGROUND <br />On January 23rd, 2017, the City Council approved the Award of Contract for the Hudson Street Bicycle and <br />Pedestrian Improvements Project to construct improvements that increase the safety of pedestrians and <br />bicyclists along Hudson Street, between Harrison Avenue and Woodside Road. The improvements <br />included accessible sidewalk, curb ramps, high visibility crosswalks, signage, traffic signal modifications, <br />and bulb -outs. <br />The initial contract amount was $1,388,693.45 and the final cost of the completed project was <br />$1,520,749.33, 9.5% above the initial contract amount. <br />ANALYSIS <br />The contractor, JJR Construction, Inc. has completed the construction of improvements in accordance <br />with the agreement, the project plans, the project specifications, and to the satisfaction of the City's <br />Engineering and Transportation Divisions. The contractor provided a faithful performance bond and a <br />labor and material bond, each in the amount of $1,388,693.45 that can be released at this time. These <br />bonds will be replaced by a Guaranty that guarantees all construction performed, and all material and <br />equipment incorporated therein, which will be held for a period of one year. The Guaranty is a warranty <br />in the event that any of the improvements fail within a one-year period.
