Release and purge property and evidence following appropriate federal, state, <br />and local laws and regulations; prepare evidence and property for auction <br />and/or disposal upon completion of court proceedings. <br />10. Assist officers and the public at front counter and over the telephone by <br />providing and/or returning evidence; photograph items as necessary before <br />being released to owners or Police Officers. <br />11. Maintain records of evidence tracking to insure the integrity of the evidence <br />for courtroom use in prosecution of offenders; testify in court regarding <br />handling and chain -of -custody of evidence. <br />12. Receive laboratory samples, log in accordance with the evidence tracking <br />procedures, and take or send to the appropriate laboratory for testing; store in <br />accordance with recommended legal guidelines. <br />13. Maintain computer records or files on all evidence that shows how and when <br />it came into the facility, left the facility, returned to the facility or its final <br />disposition. <br />14. Provide training and technical assistance to co-workers, including providing <br />instruction or proper evidence packaging and handling techniques. <br />15. Perform difficult, complex, technical and/or specialized office support work <br />that requires the exercise of independent judgment, the application of <br />technical skills, and a detailed knowledge of the activities and procedures <br />specific to the Police Department. <br />16. Prepare correspondence, reports, forms, receipts and specialized documents, <br />such as letters to investigators, property claim letters to citizens, and other <br />correspondence. <br />OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES: <br />17.
