Public Information Officer (PIO) <br />Responsible for providing news and information on the emergency/disaster to the media, the public, all <br />departments and required agencies. <br />ELEMENTS INCLUDE: <br />• Serve as the central coordination point for the agency or jurisdiction for all media releases <br />• Ensure that the public within the affected area receives complete, accurate and consistent <br />information about life safety procedures, public health advisories, relief and assistance programs <br />and other vital information <br />• Coordinate media releases with Public Information Officers at incidents or representing other <br />affected emergency response agencies <br />• Develop the format for press conferences, in conjunction with the EOC Director <br />• Maintain a positive relationship with the media representatives <br />• Supervise the Public Information Branch <br />Reports To: <br />EOC Director <br />Supervises: <br />Public information staff if assigned <br />Forms and Guides: <br />• POSITION JOB AID <br />• ICS -205 EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS <br />• ICS -211 CHECK-IN LIST <br />• ICS -214 ACTIVITY LOG <br />• DISASTER ASSISTANCE DIRECTORY <br />• PRESS AND MEDIA RELEASES <br />• MEDIA BRIEFING SCHEDULE <br />Technology: <br />J LAPTOP <br />PHONE <br />MEDIA MONITORING <br />Tools: <br />• WORKSTATION <br />• POSITION BINDER (CAN BE VIRTUAL) <br />• VEST <br />C-15 <br />
