Care and Shelter/Animal Care Unit <br />Responsible for opening and operating evacuation centers and mass care facilities in the City until, and if, <br />the ARC assumes responsibility; coordinating efforts with the ARC and other volunteer agencies; and <br />supporting the Personnel Unit in the care and sheltering of employees and their families. Ensures <br />coordination of mass care services and animal emergency response organization to provide for the safety <br />and well-being of household pets and service animals during evacuations and sheltering. <br />ELEMENTS INCLUDE: <br />• Identify the care and shelter needs of the community <br />• Work with the ARC to establish shelters as required <br />• Coordinate with the ARC and other emergency welfare agencies to identify, set up, staff and <br />maintain evacuation centers and mass care facilities for survivors <br />• Via the media, encourage residents to go to the shelter nearest their residence <br />• Coordinate animal care, rescue operations and sheltering with local animal emergency response <br />organizations <br />• Coordinate pet evacuations with Law Enforcement and local animal emergency response <br />organizations for people that will not evacuate if they have to leave their pets <br />Reports To: <br />Logistics Section Chief <br />Plans and Reports: <br />• Mass Care Status Report <br />Forms and Guides: <br />• POSITION JOB AID <br />• ICS -205 COMMUNICATION LIST <br />• ICS -211 CHECK-IN LIST <br />• ICS -214 ACTIVITY LOG <br />Technology: <br />• LAPTOP <br />• PHONE (DESK OR CELL) <br />Tools: <br />• WORKSTATION <br />• POSITION BINDER (CAN BE VIRTUAL) <br />• VEST <br />Activation: <br />J Check-in at the EOC <br />C-147 <br />
