Tasks
Redwood City will be responsible for the overall direction and control of any emergency response activities
within the City limits. Such activities may include firefighting and containment activities, warning
notifications, evacuation and rescue, security in affected areas, cleanup, or other operations that may be
necessary. See the Concept of Operations section in the Basic Plan for general information.
Given the close proximity of Redwood City's WUI to other communities, it is likely that any WUI fire that
has the chance to become a major conflagration will involve the implementation of a Unified Command
that involves the San Mateo County Operational Area, and potentially the Cal OES Coastal Administration
Region and the statewide level.
When conditions become suitable for wildfires, the Fire Department and other appropriate City agencies
should conduct the following pre -event preparatory activities:
❑ Clear brush and other fuel from City -owned properties in and around the WUI.
❑ Work with private property owners and other agencies to clear brush and other fuel from
properties in and around the WUI not owned by the City.
❑ Check the working order of all City vehicles, equipment, and other resources necessary for
firefighting and fire containment efforts. Make prompt repairs or secure replacement resources
as needed.
❑ Ensure that adequate traffic control devices, functional communication devices, first aid kits, and
other necessary supplies are available and functional.
Direction and Control
For general information about direction and control during a WUI fire event, see the Concept of Operations
section in the Basic Plan.
Increased Readiness Actions
Condition 3: A small fire has broken out in Redwood City's WUI and is not threatening any structures.
Conditions are not suitable for the fire to grow or spread. The EOC is operating at Level 1 (Information
Level).
❑ Deploy Fire Department resources to contain and extinguish the fire.
❑ Monitor the NWS for information on watches, warnings and alerts online at
https://www.weather.gov/forecastmaps and through other sources as necessary.
IJ Review the condition and supply of all resources necessary for emergency response activities.
❑ Check the readiness of all equipment necessary for responding to a WUI fire emergency.
❑ Review the alert list with all personnel who may have a role in WUI fire response.
❑ Provide information on the City's website, and Facebook account and other appropriate social
media, about the emergency to the extent it is appropriate.
D-79
