Effective the first full pay period on or after January 1, 2021, there will be a three <br />and one-half percent (3.5%) salary increase for all classifications represented by <br />the bargaining unit. <br />7.2.1 Initial Appointments <br />Initial appointments to all classifications represented by the <br />bargaining unit shall normally be made at the lowest step or rate of <br />pay. Upon approval of the Fire Chief and City Manager, such <br />appointments may be made at any other step when justification upon <br />consideration of the difficulty locating qualified personnel, education, <br />experience, certifications, personal fitness and other criteria as may <br />be reasonably related to the position. <br />7.2.2 Salary Increase on Promotion to Fire Captain <br />A Fire Fighter/Engineer who is receiving paramedic pay is eligible for <br />a promotional adjustment to the whole salary step that ensures at <br />least a 5% increase above the highest classification they are to <br />supervise. <br />7.2.3 Merit Increases <br />A probationary employee may be eligible for a salary increase to the <br />next higher step above the initial step or rate to which appointment <br />was made after a six (6) month period. With continued satisfactory <br />performance, an employee may be eligible for a salary increase at <br />twelve (12) -month intervals between steps to the maximum top step <br />upon consideration of such employee's performance of duties, <br />experience, education, personal fitness for the position, and other <br />criteria reasonably related to awarding increased compensation on <br />the basis of merit. Adjustments shall be made at the <br />recommendation of the Fire Chief and approved by the City Manager. <br />7.3 Work Schedule <br />7.3.1 The regular workweek for employees in the classification of Fire <br />Fighter/Engineer and Fire Captain shall be fifty-six (56) hours on <br />existing work schedules. The work schedule shall consist of eight (8) <br />twenty-four (24) hour on -duty periods within a twenty-four (24) day <br />cycle to be worked in accordance with the following chart: <br />X = 24 hour on -duty period <br />0 = 24 hour off-duty period <br />
