SECTION 13 - PROMOTION <br />13.1 Examination <br />In the event the City desires to fill a vacancy by promotion, the Personnel Officer <br />shall prepare and administer an examination for those employees holding similar <br />positions in lower classes. <br />13.2 Eligible List <br />The names of the successful candidates shall be recorded in the order of their <br />standing in the examination on an eligible list. The Human Resources <br />Department shall provide to the Fire Department and Fire Union a list of the Fire <br />Captain candidates from the eligibility list to include candidate name and rank <br />position. No scores will be provided. <br />13.3 Promotional Appointment <br />Promotional appointments shall be made from the first three (3) candidates on <br />the eligible list who are ready and willing to accept the position offered. <br />13.4 Duration of Eligible List <br />Eligible lists shall continue in effect one (1) year after establishment. They may <br />be extended for a period of not to exceed one (1) year or abolished before the <br />expiration of the yearly period by the Personnel Officer upon recommendation of <br />the Fire Chief. <br />13.5 Removal from Eligible List <br />The name of any person on an eligible list may be removed by the Personnel <br />Officer if the eligible person requests in writing that his/her name be removed, if <br />he/she fails to respond to a written offer of employment within five (5) days or <br />receipt of the mailing of a notice, if a subsequent report of a character <br />investigation is unsatisfactory, or he/she has been rejected for appointment three <br />(3) times by the Fire Chief. <br />13.6 Time Off for Examination <br />Promotional examinations scheduled by the City during an employee's regular <br />working hours may be taken without any loss in compensation. <br />SECTION 14 - DISCIPLINE <br />14.1 Right of Discipline <br />The City shall have the right to discipline any employee for just cause. <br />24 <br />
