workweek shall accrue sick leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per <br />month to a maximum of nine hundred sixty (960) hours. Sick leave <br />shall accrue during an absence which is a result of occupational <br />disability resulting from service with the City. <br />In the event an employee of the Fire Department regularly assigned <br />to a twenty-four (24) hour duty shift is temporarily assigned by the <br />Fire Chief to a forty (40) hour workweek, sick leave for such employee <br />shall continue to be credited at the fifty-six (56) hour rate, provided <br />that sick leave taken on the forty (40) hour work schedule will be <br />charged to the employee's sick leave bank at a rate of one and four <br />tenths (1.4) hours for every one hour of sick leave taken. Such <br />appointment and accrual credit shall not exceed ninety (90) calendar <br />days, except by mutual agreement between the Union and the City. <br />18.1.2 Sick Leave Usage <br />Except as provided in section 18.4 below (providing employees with <br />paid leave in connection with an industrial disability) employees shall <br />be eligible to use accrued sick leave benefits from the commencement <br />of their employment with the City, up to a maximum of the hours <br />accrued, for any of the following reasons: <br />• For the employee's own diagnosis, care, or treatment of an <br />existing health condition or preventative care. <br />• For the diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing health <br />condition or preventative care for an employee's family member, <br />including: <br />o Child (including a biological, adopted, or foster child, <br />stepchild, legal ward, or a child to whom the employee stands <br />in loco parentis.) <br />o Spouse or Registered Domestic Partner. <br />o Parent (including biological, adoptive, or foster parent, <br />stepparent, or legal guardian of an employee or the <br />employee's spouse or registered domestic partner, or a <br />person who stood in loco parentis when the employee was a <br />minor child.) <br />o Grandparent. <br />o Grandchild. <br />o Sibling. <br />To obtain any relief or services related to being a victim of <br />domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking including the <br />following with appropriate certification of the need for such <br />services: <br />o A temporary restraining order or restraining order. <br />34 <br />
