ZC claims in her Redwood City story that this citation and towing mess
is a no-win situation. But, the statement could not be further from
the truth. Car towing in this state, like other states, is a racket
like in racketeering. Tt is an industry. Tn San Francisco, the SFPD
gets a $75 kick -back when they call a tow. The towing firms pay it,
because for them this is easy money. Tf you do not pay the fee, they
will not get any more work from the SFPD. T am assuming the same fees
move in San Mateo. The tow money is mostly unreported cash. The tow
yards do not operate at a loss, because the captured vehicle is all
theirs until it is paid for or sold on a lien. Then, they take the
lien money and claim a loss. The local government, like Redwood City,
explodes these citations when they are not paid on time, or go to the
DMV, where they collect 50% of them. Tn this racket, everyone is in
ecstasy, except the one loser.
Again, the loser is the vehicle owner. By the time he or she finds out
that their vehicle has been towed/stored-in the yard where the fees
have already exploded, they are usually $1500 in the hole. The tow
firm will state, "You have to pay the registration, insurance,
citations, smog maybe, and daily storage fee, before you can get your
vehicle". You need certified police forms, too. This will take a
couple of more days of $95 a day storage fees. By the time the
vehicle owner does the numbers, he or she realizes they have been
`had'. Their car may not be worth two grand. Many cars are towed
without a three day notice, either. That was the way all of mine were
towed and then stowed. T came back three days later looking for my
vehicle and it was gone. He who holds the assets is the winner.
All of this is citation and towing is done to protect the real estate
owners who control the Redwood City Council (RCC). To keep store rents
at artificially high rates, the RCC get the police to ticket vehicles,
claiming the shoppers are not moving fast enough. Or, although it is a
public street, we do not want these shabby looking cars in front of
our store. This is done in San Francisco, as well. And, then the
crooked car insurance issue.
Mandatory car Tnsurance is another racket. Who is investing tens of
billions of dollars in the stock and bond markets, with their excess
funds? Warren Buffett owns GETCO and other insurance firms, and he is
investing. When you force everyone to have insurance, it just means
that the insurance firms are going to be just that more profitable.
They pay out seven million for every 100 million they collect. GETCO
adjusts your insurance based on your FICO credit score, and then they
add some based on your driving ability. Tf you have two or more point
citations, they have an orgasm of new claims.
About two decades ago, the State Tnsurance Director/Commissioner, with
the stroke of pen, made car insurance mandatory for the state. Tt was
never legislated. For other matters, he left the state once he was
accused of insurance fraud. Tn the time T was a taxi driver, T was
smashed into four times. Tn each collision, although the taxi paid
$1000 a month for catastrophic insurance, the payout was less than
2 1 P a g e
