8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />B. Appointments to City Council- appointed Pilot Community Tree Board (Five 18- <br />month term seats available, expiring approximately February 28, 2009). Applicants <br />are listed in alphabetic order. <br />Mayor Pierce stated that the original criteria for the Pilot Community Tree Board <br />included the belief that it should consist of five members and that consideration <br />should be given to one or more members should be from the arboricultural or <br />horticultural profession, but in conducting the recruitment process, Council <br />discovered that this criteria hampered the selection process. Currently none of the <br />applicants have this background even though the application and interview times <br />were extended. Council proceeded with the appointment process. <br />City Clerk Howe requested up to five votes from each Council Member with the <br />following result: <br />First Vote: <br />• Patricia "Pat" Black — Council Members Aguirre, Bain, Hartnett, Howard, Ira, <br />Vice Mayor Foust, and Mayor Pierce <br />• Carole Haythornewhite — Council Members Bain and Ira <br />• William (Bill) Keating — Council Member Hartnett, Howard and Mayor Pierce <br />• Ron Marsh - Council Member Aguirre and Vice Mayor Foust <br />• Rick Nordensten — Council Members Aguirre, Bain, Hartnett, Howard, Ira, Vice <br />Mayor Foust, and Mayor Pierce <br />• Isila Oliver — Council Members Aguirre, Bain, Hartnett, Howard, Ira, Vice Mayor <br />Foust, and Mayor Pierce <br />• Frank Schwartz — Council Members Aguirre, Bain, Hartnett, Howard, Ira, Vice <br />Mayor Foust, and Mayor Pierce <br />The successful applicants receiving a majority vote were Patricia (Pat) Black, Rick <br />Nordensten, Isila Oliver, and Frank Schwartz. <br />A second vote was taken to determine the fifth successful applicant with the <br />following result: <br />• Carole Haythornewhite —Council Member Bain <br />• William Keating — Council Members Hartnett, Howard, Ira, Vice Mayor Foust, <br />and Mayor Pierce <br />• Ron Marsh — Council Member Aguirre <br />The successful applicant was William Keating. <br />JOINT CITY COUNCIL /REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD MEETING SEPTEMBER 24, 2007 <br />MEETINGS PAGE 6 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO.61 <br />Page No. 499 <br />
