bills will give the Water Transit Authority (WTA) more authority in taking on the <br />operation management of the Vallejo and Alameda ferries under a comprehensive <br />umbrella of water transit. She stated that South San Francisco is ready to start their <br />ferry terminal and ferry service in December 2008 and that they have written letters <br />on behalf of the WTA to the governor letting him know that when he changes the <br />WTA to Water Emergency Transit Authority, it will change the board members from <br />11 to 5, and that San Mateo and South counties would like representation on that <br />board, and that they would also like to have a citizens' advisory committee <br />maintained as there is one now as a sounding board as they plan the future of <br />water transit. It is very important that Redwood City, South San Francisco, and <br />Senators Torlakson, Perata, and Simitian, Assemblymen Mullin, Nunez, and Ruskin <br />that we would like to see representation on this new board for this county and we <br />have a strong voice. <br />Mayor Pierce agreed to work with Council Member Howard on the letters. She <br />stated that the Port has sent letters out as well and has been working with Bay Area <br />Council because they see the importance of ensuring that there is an emergency <br />lifeline in case any of the bridges go down in an emergency and to keep business <br />and transportation of emergency supplies coming in. <br />9.
