6.A. - Page 1 of 10 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: August 26, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Approval of the revised Boards, Commissions and Committees Attendance Policy and introduction of an <br />Ordinance Amending Redwood City Code Section 2.102 — Vacancies; Removal of Members <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve the revised Boards, Commissions and Committees Attendance Policy (BCC <br />Attendance Policy) clarifying that the policy applies to all Boards, Commissions and Committees <br />(BCCs), clarifying removal procedures for certain BCC members for non-attendance reasons in <br />order to align with the City Charter, clarifying that a member must be present for at least fifty <br />percent (50%) of a meeting to be counted as present, and clarifying that if a meeting is cancelled <br />for lack of business, Election Day, summer recess, or winter recess, that meeting will not be <br />factored into the calculation of the percentage of absences by a member over a twelve month <br />consecutive period. <br />Waive the first reading and introduce an Ordinance amending Redwood City Code Section 2.102 <br />(Vacancies; Removal of Members) of Article IX (Boards and Commissions) of Chapter 2 <br />(Administration) of the Redwood City Code. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />At the June 24, 2019 City Council meeting, by unanimous vote the Council adopted a policy outlining <br />attendance requirements for members of BCCs. <br />The purpose of the BCC Attendance Policy is to encourage and ensure consistent attendance at all BCC <br />meetings by BCC members, and to establish guidelines to address non-attendance. <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore <br />10 <br />
