6.P. - Page 1 of 5 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: August 26, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />Annual Report on Fire and Life Safety Inspections <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />From the City Manager <br />Adopt a resolution acknowledging receipt of the Fiscal Year (FY) 18/19 report of compliance with California <br />Health and Safety Code Section 13146.4, as adopted by Senate Bill (SB) 1205, relating to fire and life safety <br />inspections. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND <br />California Health and Safety Code ("Health and Safety Code") Section 13146.3 requires every city, county, <br />or city and county fire department, or district providing fire protection services to annually inspect every <br />building used as a public or private school within its jurisdiction, for the purpose of enforcing specified <br />building standards. Health and Safety Code Section 13146.2 requires every city, county, or city and county <br />fire department, or district providing fire protection services that is required to enforce specified building <br />standards to annually inspect certain structures, including hotels, motels, lodging houses, and apartment <br />houses, for compliance with specified building standards. <br />SB 1205 added Health and Safety Code Section 13146.4, which now requires every city or county fire <br />department, city and county fire department, or district required to perform the above-described <br />inspections to report annually to its administering authority, as defined, on the department's or district's <br />compliance with the above-described inspection requirements, as provided.
