6.P. - Page 2 of 5
ANALYSIS
The Redwood City Fire Department ("Fire Department") tracks fire and life safety inspections on a FY basis
to align inspections with fees approved in the City's Fee Schedule. In compliance with Health and Safety
Code Sections 13146.2 and 13146.2, 100% of property types required by state mandate to be inspected
annually were inspected in FY 18/19.
Exhibit A of the resolution in Attachment A shows the FY 18/19 inspection results for the inspections
required by Health and Safety Code Sections 13146.2 and 13146.2. The state mandates that the listed
occupancy types receive an annual inspection. It does not mandate that any violations noted are corrected
within the annual cycle. However, the Fire Department has a relatively high rate of correction of all
violations on three property types (R2 — Multifamily Residential, E — Educational, R1 — Hotels/Motels)
considering the large amount of occupancies that are mandated to be inspected. The properties that did
not achieve complete correction of all violations within FY 18/19 are continuously contacted until
violations are corrected. Other occupancy types with mandatory annual inspections are Institutional Jails,
and High Rises, and Camps. Health and Safety Code Section 13146.4 does not require compliance
reporting for these occupancy types.
Starting in FY 19/20 the Fire Department has re -instituted inspecting non -mandated occupancies such as
businesses, mercantile, commercial, assembly, and industrial occupancies, which adds over 3,000
inspections on a regular cycle. Additionally the Fire Department also conducts Wildland Urban Interface
inspections of properties in the hills of Redwood City on an annual basis.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact anticipated.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This activity is not a project under California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) as defined in CEQA
Guidelines, section 15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or reasonably
foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.
PUBLIC NOTICE
Public Notification was achieved by posting the agenda, with the agenda items being listed, at least 72
hours prior to the meeting
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
195
