6.H. - Page 1 of 6
/<ik
Redwood
CitylCallifornia
Faunded 1867
Ago/
DATE: August 26, 2019
SUBJECT
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
Letters requesting Caltrain to provide greater flexibility and availability in proposed fare changes to the
Go Pass Program
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, (1) authorize the City Manager or designee to draft, and the Mayor to sign, a letter on behalf
of the City Council requesting Caltrain to consider adjustments to the Go Pass Program to provide greater
flexibility and increased program participation, and (2) authorize the City Manager to sign a joint letter
from the member cities of the Managers Mobility Partnership for the same purpose.
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Transportation
BACKGROUND
Redwood City is committed to high quality, high frequency transit service as an essential alternative to
driving alone for our residents, employees and visitors. The heart of downtown Redwood City is steps
away from our Caltrain station. We are actively encouraging transit -oriented development to maintain
and build ridership for increased Caltrain service. Each day thousands of our downtown employees,
residents, and visitors commute via Caltrain.
While many Redwood City employers, such as technology firms, are able to purchase Go Passes under the
current Go Pass Program guidelines, participating in the Program is not economically viable for small or
non-profit employers, including restaurants and retailers in downtown Redwood City.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
99
