6.F. - Page 2 of 14
The City routinely works closely with all the school districts serving Redwood City by focusing on after
school care; student enrollment, attendance and success; and school safety. Most recently, when the
District implemented a school site consolidation plan beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, the City
Council authorized $300,000 in one-time funding to support safe travel to schools and after school
programming. The funding allocation reflected City Council priorities around transportation and mobility,
and children and youth. Through the new Neighborhood School Traffic Ambassador Program, additional
traffic support, and contract crossing guard services, the City helped avoid significant community impacts
as families and neighborhoods adjusted to new traffic patterns. Additionally, City funding expanded after
school program slots to support an additional 90 children and to provide financial assistance for families
in need.
In considering Measure H, City Council Governance Sub -Committee members stated their belief that the
City benefits from having strong and well -funded public schools, and recommended that the City Council
endorse Measure H to help stabilize funding for the District.
FISCAL IMPACT
Endorsing Measure H would have no financial impact on the City. Passage of Measure H would strengthen
the financial status of the Redwood City School District, a key partner in numerous shared initiatives to
support children in Redwood City.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This activity is not a project under California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) as defined in CEQA
Guidelines, section 15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or reasonably
foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.
PUBLIC NOTICE
Public Notification was achieved by posting the agenda, with the agenda items being listed, at least 72
hours prior to the meeting
ALTERNATIVES
The City Council can decide not to endorse Measure H.
ATTACHMENTS
Attachment A: Redwood City School District Resolution Calling an Election for an Education Parcel Tax
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
152
