66. Fire Department Knox Building Access — Knox Key boxes are required as part of this
project to allow emergency access for firefighters to all buildings. Indicate on the plans that
Knox Key boxes will be provided at the entrances to all buildings at locations approved by
the fire department. Recessed key boxes shall be installed at all buildings five to six feet
above finished grade. [SDR - CFC 506][FIRE]
67. Available Water Supply to Project Site - Provide current fire flow information from the
water purveyor to indicate the maximum available water flow in gallons per minute (GPM)
at a minimum of 20 pounds per square inch (psi) residual pressure. This information must
be dated and indicate the information is the most current information available from the
water purveyor. [COA][FIRE]
68. Number and location of Fire Hydrants - The number and location of Fire Hydrants based
on the required fire flow for this project shall be determined utilizing Appendix B and C of
the CFC. [COA][FIRE]
a. On Sheet C10.0 of the plan set there is a Notes box that indicates a wharf hydrant will
be installed on the railroad track side of the building.
b. A standpipe connection supplied by the building's fire sprinkler system is required
instead of the wharf hydrant in that location.
69. Automatic Fire Sprinkler System Required —The building and garage areas are required
to be equipped with a fire sprinkler systems meeting NFPA Standard 13. Provide plans and
hydraulic calculations for the design of the system. [COA][FIRE]
70. Fire Department Connections — FDC's to the fire sprinkler system shall be located at the
fire access side of the building within 50 feet of a Fire Hydrant. [COA][FIRE]
a. Sheet C10.0 of the plan set indicates a fire access zone in front of the building directly
in front of the garage entrance with the building's FDC on one side of the garage
entrance and a fire hydrant on the other side of the garage entrance. The proposed
layout will block all access and vehicle egress from the garage due to engine
placement and hose layout in the event of a fire.
b. The preferred solution is to locate the FDC on the same side of the garage entrance
as the fire hydrant and move the fire access zone away from the entrance to the
garage.
71. Fire Alarm System Required — UL Central Station fully addressable fire alarm systems are
required in all buildings meeting NFPA 72. Provide plans and voltage drop calculations for
the design of these systems. [COA][FIRE]
72. Premises Identification (Address Numbers) - Indicate on the plans where the premises
identification (address) will be located and the size (minimum 12") in a contrasting
background facing the street from which the building takes the address CFC 505.
[COA][FIRE]
73. Portable Fire Extinguishers Required — Portable fire extinguishers, with a minimum
classification of 2A:10BC are required to be permanently installed in all buildings
within75feet of travel from all portions of the building in compliance with NFPA 10 and CFC
Page 23 of 25
ATTY/RESOS/2019/RESO.0081 PC RESO 1180 MAIN PROJECT APPROVAL
REV: 07-25-19 PR
