01/10/2011 <br /> one (1) year from the effective date of his /her resignation. Reinstatement shall <br /> be made at the salary step recommended by the Fire Chief and approved by <br /> the Human Resources Director, no lower than the salary step held at the time <br /> the employee left City employment. <br /> The reinstated employee will serve the designated probationary period for that <br /> classification prior to becoming a regular employee, regardless of the salary <br /> step at which the employee was reinstated. <br /> SECTION 16 - LAYOFF <br /> 16,1 Order of Layoff <br /> In the event of a reduction of force, the employee with the least service in the <br /> classification affected shall be laid off first; provided, however, that any such <br /> employee so laid off shall be reassigned to a related classification held by an <br /> employee having less service with the City; provided, further, that in order to <br /> displace the employee with less service in the other classification, the employee <br /> to be laid off shall be deemed capable, in the opinion of the City, by virtue of <br /> prior training and experience with the City of Redwood City, to perform the <br /> work required in that related classification. <br /> 16.2 Order of Rehire <br /> An employee who is laid off shall be placed, for a period of one (1) year from <br /> the date of the employee's most recent layoff, on a rehire list (for the <br /> employee's classification). In hiring for a vacant position in a classification, <br /> such rehire list shall take precedence over all other employment lists and the <br /> last employee laid off shall be the first employee rehired until the rehire list of <br /> employees is exhausted; provided, however, that the employee hired from the <br /> rehire list is capable, in the opinion of the City, by virtue of prior training and <br /> experience with the City, to perform the work required in the classification in <br /> which the opening exists. <br /> 163 Break in Service <br /> Service with the City shall be terminated by discharge, resignation, refusal by <br /> an employee to accept a reassignment to a related classification, twelve (12) <br /> consecutive months of unemployment, one (1) year on a rehire list, or the <br /> refusal by an employee on the rehire list to report to a rehire assignment made <br /> by the City. <br /> 16.4 Benefits During Layoff <br /> During the one (1) year on a rehire list, the employee shall not accrue any <br /> benefits, including, but not limited to, vacation, sick leave, holidays, medical, <br /> dental, life insurance and uniform allowance.
