07/09/2012 <br /> Exhibit A <br /> New Job classification <br /> CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> POLICE LIEUTENANT <br /> DEFINITION <br /> Under general direction, to serve as a manager over assigned division, section, program <br /> or operation within the Police Department; to plan and coordinate the activities and <br /> operations of an assigned area; to coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, <br /> outside agencies, and the general public; and to provide highly responsible and complex <br /> staff assistance to Police Captains and the Police Chief. <br /> SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> Direction is provided by a Police Captain or the Police Chief. <br /> Responsibilities include direct supervision of sworn, non-sworn, supervisory, professional, <br /> technical and administrative support staff. <br /> EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES <br /> 1. Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities for an assigned <br /> Division or Section within the Police Department. <br /> 2. Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, <br /> and procedures for an assigned police operation or program; identify opportunities <br /> for improving police service delivery methods and procedures. <br /> 3. Supervise, train, motivate and evaluate assigned personnel; provide or coordinate <br /> staff training; implement corrective actions and/or disciplinary procedures as <br /> necessary. <br /> 4. Direct, plan, coordinate, assign, schedule and review the work of an assigned <br /> police operation or program and staff members; assign cases and conduct follow- <br /> up of status reviews; review daily log and reports submitted by officers; ensure <br /> compliance with Department policies and procedures. <br /> 5. Participate in in the development and administration of an assigned budget; <br /> forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; <br /> monitor and approve expenditures; recommend adjustments as necessary. <br /> 6.
