07/23/2018 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 15694 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY CALLING AN ELECTION TO BE CONSOLIDATED WITH THE <br />GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION AND STATEWIDE GENERAL <br />ELECTION ON NOVEMBER 6, 2018, AND SUBMITTING TO THE <br />VOTERS AT THAT ELECTION A MEASURE TO AMEND THE CITY <br />CHARTER TO UPDATE CERTAIN PROVISIONS <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to article XI, section 3 of the California Constitution and <br />section 9255 of the Elections Code, the City Council may propose on its own motion, a <br />proposal to revise or amend the City Charter; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council can direct the Charter Review Sub -Committee to <br />review the Charter and propose changes; and <br />WHEREAS, on January 23, 2017, the City Council charged the Charter Review <br />Sub -Committee to consider several amendments to the Charter, and the Sub - <br />Committee met and took public comments on various proposed amendments on June <br />12, 2017, August 21, 2017, October 18, 2017, May 14, 2018, and June 11, 2018; and <br />WHEREAS, on December 4, 2017 and June 25, 2018, the Charter Review Sub - <br />Committee presented to the City Council proposed amendments to the Charter; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council heard public comment on the proposed <br />amendments and made additional proposals to amend the Charter; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council is now authorized to submit the proposed Charter <br />amendments to the voters at the next general election. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF REDWOOD CITY THAT: <br />SECTION 1. Callina the Election. Pursuant to California Elections Code <br />sections 1415 and 9255, the City Council hereby calls an election to be consolidated <br />with the City's general municipal election and statewide general election to be held on <br />November 6, 2018, for the purpose of submitting the proposed Charter amendments <br />described above and set forth in Exhibit A (attached hereto), to a vote of the qualified <br />voters of the City of Redwood City, and hereby requests the Board of Supervisors of <br />the County of San Mateo to consolidate this election with the November 6, 2018, <br />statewide general election to be held on that date. The consolidated election shall be <br />held and conducted in the manner prescribed by elections Code section 10418. <br />SECTION 2. Request for Services and conduct of Election. The Board of <br />Supervisors of the County of San Mateo is hereby requested to permit the County <br />ATTY/RE50.0074/CC RE50 CHARTER AMENDMENT RE50.
