ORIGINAL 06/02/03 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14530 <br />RESOLUTION TO ADOPT AMENDMENT TO URBAN WATER <br />MANAGEMENT PLAN <br />WHEREAS, the California Legislature has enacted Assembly Bill 797 (Water <br />Code section 10610 et seq., known as the Urban Water Management Planning Act, <br />hereinafter referred to as "the Act ") during the 1983 -1984 Regular Session; and <br />WHEREAS, the Legislature has determined that management of urban water <br />demands and efficient use of water shall be actively pursued to protect both the people <br />of the state and their water resources; that efficient use of urban water supplies shall be <br />a guiding criterion in public decisions; and that urban water suppliers shall be required <br />to develop water management plans to actively pursue the efficient use of available <br />supplies; and <br />WHEREAS, every urban water supplier is required to prepare and adopt an <br />urban water management plan and periodically review and amend the plan; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is an urban water supplier as it provides <br />water for municipal purposes either directly or indirectly to some 83,000 customers to <br />include but not limited to residents, businesses, and governmental agencies; and <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with the statutory requirements of the Act, in 1985, <br />the City of Redwood City developed its first Urban Water Management Plan which has <br />periodically amended, the latest amendment having occurred on July 15, 2002; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City has prepared and circulated for public <br />review a draft amended Urban Water Management Plan, and a duly noticed public <br />hearing regarding the said amended Plan was held by the Council of the City of <br />Redwood City on May 12, 2003; and <br />WHEREAS, on May 12, 2003, the City of Redwood City closed the public <br />hearing regarding said amended Plan and instructed City staff to return at a future <br />council meeting with language changes to Section 2.2 — Recycled Water which would: <br />➢ Clarify that Council has not yet decided on implementation of an expanded <br />recycled water project; <br />➢ Note the Council's commitment to consideration of additional information and <br />public comment; and <br />➢ Reference the City Council's recently adopted policy that use of recycled water <br />not be made mandatory for existing residences and homeowners' associations: <br />F:Atty /Reso /Reso.1393 14530 <br />052103 <br />
