08/10/2009
Saltworks 50/54 Balanced Plan — Executive Summary
Overview of Application Submittal & Statement of Justification
May 2009
Page 4
define and craft this proposal based on community priorities and needs, more
than 10,000 residents and regional stakeholders engaged with the Saltworks
Team. The product: The 50/50 Balanced Plan.
2. The 50150 Balanced Plan.
Quite simply, the 50/50 Balanced Plan is premised upon the mandate for a mix of
uses expressed by the vast majority of participants in the Saltworks Team's
outreach. Under the- 50150 Balanced Plan, at least half of the Site would be
devoted-to community open space and ecological restoration, and the remaining
half would become an innovative, sustainable transit oriented community.
3. The Saltworks Ten Commitments
Long in the public domain, the Saltworks "Ten Commitments" remain the heart of
the 50/50 Balanced Plan, reflecting the core priorities and needs expressed by
the Redwood City community.
4. Sustainability
An ethic of sustainability rooted in "whole systems" and "process -based ecology"
has guided the Saltworks Team since day one. As to both the natural and built
environments, six core elements of sustainability have been the prism through
which the 50/50 Balanced Plan came into being. Those six elements are:
livability, water, transportation, energy, ecology, and materials.
E. Project Description
t.. Land Use Flan
Below is a statistical breakdown of the 50150 Balanced Plan's land use allocation.
This allocation is graphically depicted in the attached Lurid Use Plan exhibit. The
full Statement of Justification describes the land use plan in much greater detail.
14958
MUFF # 601
