<br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />Confidential Secretary (Continued) <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: <br /> <br />May supervise and train subordinates. <br /> <br />Perform a variety of confidential responsibilities, tasks and duties. <br /> <br />Perform general clerical work including filing, scheduling, appointments, and <br />processing personnel, payroll and purchasing information. <br /> <br />Requisition or purchase office supplies. <br /> <br />Operate a word processor. <br /> <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Knowledge of: <br /> <br />Operations and procedures of the City office or department to which <br />assigned. <br /> <br />Principles of supervision and training. <br /> <br />English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and business letter <br />writing. <br /> <br />Office procedures, methods and equipment. <br /> <br />Record keeping principles and procedures. <br /> <br />Ability to: <br /> <br />Perform responsible and difficult secretarial work involving the use of <br />independent judgment, and work independently in the absence of <br />supervision. <br /> <br />Type at a speed necessary for adequate job performance. <br /> <br />Operation of a word processor may be required. <br /> <br />Taking dictation at a speed necessary for adequate job performance may <br />be required. <br /> <br />Compile and maintain complex and extensive records and prepare reports. <br /> <br />Understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside <br />agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities. Work <br />cooperatively with other departments, City officials and agencies. <br /> <br />Plan and assign work and train other clerical employees. <br /> <br />Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. <br />
