<br />DES:dj~ 08/2l/89 <br /> <br />(014/26) <br /> <br />communities, and establishes a planning process for counties to <br /> <br />prepare comprehensive hazardous waste management plans~ and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in March 1987, the San Mateo County Board of <br /> <br /> <br />Supervisors authorized the preparation of a Countywide Hazardous <br /> <br /> <br />Waste Management Plan in accordance with the Tanner legislation~ <br /> <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a ten member advisory committee comprised of <br /> <br />representatives from the Board of Supervisors, the cities in the <br /> <br /> <br />County, industry, small business, environmental organizations and <br /> <br />the general public, assisted with the step-by-step development <br /> <br /> <br />and review of the plan~ and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the draft San Mateo <br /> <br /> <br />Management Plan was formulated in <br /> <br />administrative guidelines issued by the <br /> <br /> <br />Health Services, and comprehensively: (1) <br /> <br /> <br />waste stream within San Mateo County, (2) <br /> <br />County Hazardous Waste <br /> <br />accordance with the <br /> <br /> <br />State Department of <br /> <br /> <br />analyzes the hazardous <br /> <br />determines the need for <br /> <br />hazardous waste management facilities within the County, (3) <br /> <br />identifies areas in the County sui table for siting hazardous <br /> <br />waste facilities, (4) evaluates the potential for waste <br /> <br /> <br />reduction, (5) discusses the opportunities to better manage <br /> <br />hazardous waste generated by small quantity generators, including <br /> <br />households, and (6) concludes with a set of policies describing <br /> <br /> <br />acti vi ties and programs required to implement the goals of the <br /> <br /> <br />plan~ and <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on August 11, 1988, and October 27, 1988, following <br /> <br /> <br />fourteen public meetings, the San Mateo County Hazardous Waste <br /> <br /> <br />Management Advisory Committee approved the draft plan~ and <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />11135 <br />
