ORDINANCE NO. 2409 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AMENDING DIVISIONS 3, 7 AND 8 AND ADDING DIVISIONS 14 AND 15 OF ARTICLE VII OF CHAPTER 20 OF THE CITY CODE OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO PARKING NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council adopts the following findings: <br /> A. The City of Redwood City wants to provide a mixed use, walkable downtown <br /> that allows residents to forego (or limit) car ownership; <br /> B. Car sharing and encouraging adoption of electric vehicles can help the City of <br /> Redwood City achieve its goals for parking management and overall goals for <br /> transportation by reducing parking demand and greenhouse gas emissions while <br /> improving mobility; and <br /> C. In 2006, California State law, specifically California Vehicle Code section <br /> 22507.1, went into effect to allow municipalities to designate on-street parking spaces <br /> for the exclusive use of car sharing vehicles; and <br /> D. The City of Redwood City entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on <br /> September 12, 2011 for the Making the Last Mile Connection Pilot Program, which <br /> included the provision of three car sharing "pods" at downtown Redwood City sites; and <br /> E. A 2014 survey of Redwood City car share users found that: <br /> • On the day that they used a car share vehicle, 62% of respondents also <br /> rode Caltrain, 10% also rode a bus, and 13% also rode BART, <br /> • 41% of respondents would not have made their trip(s) had a car share <br /> vehicle not been available, and <br /> ATTY/ORD.405/PARKING ORDINANCE ORD.#2409 <br /> REV:10-27-14 VR FORMERLY MUFF#703 <br /> Page 1 of 10 <br />
