04/24/2017 <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2434 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AMENDING <br />SECTION 12.18 OF CHAPTER 12 OF THE REDWOOD CITY MUNICIPAL <br />CODE REGARDING FIRE SPRINKLERS <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 12 of the Redwood City Municipal Code governs fire <br />prevention; and <br />WHEREAS, Article II of Chapter 12 of the Redwood City Municipal Code <br />specifically governs the fire code; and <br />WHEREAS, on June 8, 2015 the City of Redwood City adopted Ordinance No. <br />2413, which amended Article II of Chapter 12 of the Redwood City Municipal Code to <br />require all multi -unit residential buildings with four or more units to install Automatic <br />Sprinkler Systems; and <br />WHEREAS, on January 9, 2017, the City of Redwood City adopted Ordinance No. <br />2429, which repealed existing Article II of Chapter 12 of the Redwood City Municipal Code <br />and added a new Article II to Chapter 12 of the Redwood City Municipal adopting the <br />2015 International Fire Code Along with the 2016 Edition of the California Fire Code with <br />a local amendment retaining the requirement that all multi -unit residential buildings with <br />four or more units are required to install Automatic Sprinkler Systems; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council now desires to further amend Article II of Chapter 12 <br />of the Redwood City Municipal Code by modifying subsection (e) of Section 12.18 to <br />extend the effectiveness date of the Automatic Sprinkler System requirement in multi- <br />unit residential buildings with four or more units by two years until July 1, 2022; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redwood City is the decision-making <br />body for this Ordinance. <br />NOW, THEREFORE; THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. The foregoing recitals are true and correct and constitute the findings <br />in this matter. <br />SECTION 2. The Redwood City Municipal Code is hereby amended as shown in <br />Sections 3 and 4 by adding the text shown in underline (exam I ) and deleting the text <br />shown in strikeout (example). The other Sections and all text in brackets, [example] are <br />informational only and need not be published in the Municipal Code. <br />SECTION 3. Section 12.18 of Chapter 12 — Fire Prevention, of the City Code, is <br />amended to read as follows: <br />ATTY/ORD.440/AMENDING MUNI CODE SEC 12.18 OF CHAPTER 12—FI RE SPRINKLERS ORD.
