ORDINANCE NO ORDINANCE REPEALING ARTICLES IV, V, VI, VII, VIII AND ARTICLE IX, DIVISIONS 1, 2 AND 3 OF CHAPTER 9 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY; ADDING ARTICLES IV, V, VI, VII, VIII AND ARTICLE IX, DIVISIONS 1 AND 2 OF CHAPTER 9 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS FOR BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE FOLLOWING CODES: "THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE 1997 EDITION"; "THE UNIFORM BUILDING SECURITY CODE, 1997 EDITION"; "THE UNIFORM HOUSING CODE, 1997 EDITION"; "THE UNIFORM MECHANICAL CODE, 2000 EDITION"; "THE UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE, 2000 EDITION"; "THE UNIFORM ADMINISTRATIVE CODE PROVISIONS FOR THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, 1996 EDITION"; "THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, 1999 EDITION"; AND "THE UNIFORM CODE FOR BUILDING CONSERVATION, 1997 EDITION

"ARTICLE IX. SEISMIC REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br /> DIVISION 1. GENERALLY <br /> <br /> Sec. 9.149 PROVISIONS CUMULATIVE; ALTERNATE DESIGNS: The <br /> provisions of this Article shall be in addition to all other provisions of the Building <br /> Code insofar as the same relate to lot grading, soils design, foundation design, <br /> construction design, structural design, and other engineering design, with respect <br /> to the areas of the City referred to in Division 2 hereinbelow, respectively. Such <br /> provisions are not intended to prevent the use of any engineering design not <br /> referred to herein provided any such alternate has been approved by the Building <br /> Official. The Building Official may approve any such alternate provided the <br /> Building Official finds after review of comprehensive design data submitted by the <br /> applicant, that the design is for the purpose intended, at least the equivalent in <br /> strength, safety, and effectiveness. <br /> <br /> DIVISION 2. AREAS OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> UNDERLAIN BY YOUNGER BAY MUD <br /> <br /> Sec. 9.150 APPLICABILITY OF PROVISIONS: The provisions of this Division <br /> shall be applicable to that portion of the City underlain by Younger Bay Mud as <br /> indicated on that map prepared by Building & Inspection of the City entitled "Area <br /> of Redwood City Underlain by Younger Bay Mud," and on file in the office of the <br /> Building Official. <br /> <br /> Sec. 9.151 FOUNDATION DESIGN CRITERIA FOR ONE AND TWO-STORY <br /> RESIDENCES: For one and two-story residential buildings or structures only, all <br /> lot grading, soils design, foundation design, and construction design shall be in <br /> accordance with the recommendations of the "Recommended Foundation Design <br /> Criteria for One and Two-Story Residences" prepared by Rutherford and <br /> Chekene, Consulting Structural Engineers, (dated April 15, 1974), as revised by <br /> the addendum dated April 12, 1999, and as adopted by the City Council, which <br /> document is on file in the office of the Building Official. <br /> <br /> Sec. 9.152 STRUCTURAL DESIGN: All structural design shall be in <br /> accordance with the Uniform Building Code, 1997 Edition, including lateral force <br /> provisions for wind and earthquake. <br /> <br /> Sec. 9.153 FOUNDATION SYSTEMS: Foundation systems shall consist of mat, <br /> grill, piles or a similar system with a demonstrated ability to resist differential <br /> settlement and for tying the foundation elements together.
