A plaza space and/or water <br /> I area should be configured to create views into the hub from <br /> I the road. Attractive hub walkways, bikeways, and store- <br /> I fronts should extend directly to the Bair Island Road front- <br /> age. Auto drop-off and parking areas should be located to <br /> I the side of the gateway; e.g., the hub should not be sepa- <br /> rated from Bair Island Road by parking areas. <br /> I <br /> 4. Marine Facilities and Services - Transient boat docks should <br /> 1 be provided within the hub to support marine access to the <br /> I area. Marine-oriented businesses, such as boating supplies <br /> and boat rentals, should be part of the hub's land use mix. <br /> I 5. Waterfront Plaza - The community hub should contain a <br /> I modest paved open space area that can be used for small- Marine-oriented recreation and services should be part of the <br /> scale special events, such as outdoor concerts, food/craft fairs, community hub's land use mix. <br /> I and/or aquatics-related activities. The plaza should be be- <br /> I tween 5,000 and 10,000 square feet in size. It should be con- <br /> figured as a simple geometric space - square, rectangle, cres- <br /> I cent, etc. - that provides flexibility for a variety of uses and <br /> activities. It should be bordered by water on at least one <br /> I side, and active first floor commercial space on at least one <br /> I side. <br /> I An iconic architectural landmark, such as a clock, tower, bea- <br /> con, and/or major building should be sited in a prominent <br /> ., location on or adjacent to the plaza. Special lighting and <br /> I water edge features, such as steps down to the water or a <br /> dock, should be incorporated into the space.
