Description
AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY; ADDING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO FIRE PREVENTION; AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE "UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1988 EDITION", AS PUBLISHED BY THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF BUILDING OFFICIALS AND THE WESTERN FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Article II (commencing at 12.7) of Chapter 12 of the Code of the City of Redwood City is hereby repealed. SECTION 2. Article II (commencing at 12.7) is hereby added to Chapter 12 of the Code of the City of Redwood City, to read as follows

Maintenance of privately- <br />owned water mains, hydrants, or other fire service systems <br />shall be performed by, and be the responsibility of, the <br />owners thereof, and the City shall assume no liability for <br />damages to such mains, hydrants, or systems in performing <br />tests to, or in using, such facilities. <br /> Section 12.15. Section 10.307.1 added. <br /> Section 10.307.1 is hereby added to the Fire Code to <br />read as follows: <br /> Section 10.307.1. Approved Automatic Sprinkler <br />Systems. <br /> ( a) Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 10.306, <br />approved automatic sprinkler systems shall be installed and <br />maintained in accordance with the provisions of this section <br />and all applicable standards of the 1989 edition of the <br />National Fire Protection Association Standards published by <br />the National Fire Protection Association. <br /> (b) Approved automatic sprinkler systems with more <br />than twenty (20) sprinkler heads shall include a water flow <br />detecting device, and valves controlling such systems, <br />excepting underground gate valves with roadway boxes, shall <br />be supervised open by a monitoring device or devices. <br />Waterflow and monitoring devices shall operate on a <br />continuous basis to provide immediate notification of any <br />activation of such systems to a central station as described <br />in the National Fire Protection Association, Pamphlet No. <br />71, as it now exist, or as it may from time to time be <br /> 8 <br /> .--..- <br />
