DES: dft r,/23/94 (017/10) <br /> <br /> 0 R I G I N A L 4/11/94 <br /> <br /> O R D I N A N C E N O. 2077 <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF FIRST <br /> AMENDMENT TO FRANCHISE AGREEMENT WITH BROWNING-FERRIS <br /> INDUSTRIES OF CALIFORNIA, INC., FOR SOLID WASTE <br /> COLLECTION SERVICES <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 1960 adopted October 12, <br />1987, the City of Redwood City entered into that certain <br />agreement entitled, "South Bayside Transfer Station Authority <br />Uniform Franchise Agreement" with Browning-Ferris Industries of <br />California, Inc. ("BFI") effective as of October 1, 1987, (the <br />"Uniform Franchise Agreement"); and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this City is a member agency of the South Bayside <br />Transfer Station Authority ("Authority"), a public agency <br />established pursuant to the California Joint Exercise of Powers <br />Act (Gov't. Code §6500 et seq.); and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to the Uniform Franchise Agreement, BFI <br />collects and disposes of solid wastes from the City of Redwood <br />City, processing said wastes through the transfer station <br />facilities of the Authority; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BFI has agreed to develop a recyclable processing <br />facility to divert from sanitary landfill some 30% of the solid <br />wastes collected from the jurisdictions of the member agencies of <br />the Authority; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BFI further has committed to developing and <br />operating a "Green Waste" facility to divert from sanitary land <br />fill operations an additional 20% of solid wastes collected from <br />the jurisdictions of the member agencies of the Authority; and <br /> <br /> <br />
