ORDINANCE NO. 2101 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY; ADDING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO FIRE PREVENTION; AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE "UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1994 EDITION", AS PUBLISHED BY THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF BUILDING OFFICIALS AND THE WESTERN FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Article II (commencing at 12.7) of Cliapter 12 of the Code of Redwood City is hereby repealed. SECTION 2. Article II (commencing at 12.7) is hereby added to Chapter 12 of the Code of the City of Redwood City, to read follows

<br />'"'- <br />Notwithstanding the provisions of this Code or the provisions of any other <br />Code of the City of Redwood City, approved automatic sprinkler systems shall <br />be installed in those buildings or structures: <br />1. The total floor area of which is seven thousand five hundred (7,500) <br />square feet or more; <br />2. Which are fifty feet (50') or more in height as that term is defined in <br />Section 209 of the Uniform Building Code, 1994 Edition; or <br />3. Which are four (4) stories or more, irrespective of height. <br />In the event standards or requirements of this section are less restrictive than <br />the standards or requirements of any other provisions of the Redwood City <br />Code, as amended, the more restrictive standards shall govern. <br />"Section 12.17. Section 1003.3.1 amended. <br />Section 1003.3.1 of the Fire Code is hereby amended to read as follows: <br />Section 1003.3.1. Where required. <br />All valves controlling the water supply for automatic sprinkler systems and <br />water-flow switches on all sprinkler systems shall be electrically monitored when <br />there are twenty (20) or more sprinkler heads. <br />Valve monitoring and water-flow alarm and trouble signals shall be distinctly <br />different and shall be automatically transmitted to an approved central station as <br />defined by national standards. <br />Exceptions: <br />1. Underground key or hub valves in roadway boxes provided by the <br />municipality or public utility need not be monitored. <br />2. An alarm automatically transmitted to an approved central station is not <br />required for Group R, Division 3 Occupancies provided with a local water- <br />flow alarm. <br />"Section 12.18.
