ORDINANCE NO. 2161 ORDINANCE REPEALING ARTICLE II, CHAPTER 3 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD RELATING TO SIGNS AND ADDING ARTICLE II, CHAPTER 3 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO SIGNS Section 1. Article II ("Signs") of Chapter 3 of the Code of the City of Redwood City is hereby repealed. Section 2. Article II ("Signs") is hereby added to Chapter 3 of the Code of the City of Redwood City to read as follows: "ARTICLE II SIGNS

Examples include but are not limited to traffic signs, public transit signs, utility company <br />signs, public restroom signs, warning signs and signs guiding persons to emergency <br />centers and places of public interest. <br /> <br />Section 3.61.39. Grand Opening. A thirty (30) day period following the opening of a <br />new business. <br /> <br />Section 3.61.40. Grand Opening Sign. A sign announcing a grand opening, change <br />in the name or management of a business or the reopening of a business that was <br />closed for at least two (2) weeks due to remodeling. <br /> <br />Section 3.61.41. Height, Copy. The vertical dimension of the tallest letter, numeral or <br />symbol displayed on the face of a sign. <br /> <br />Section 3.6'1.42. Height, Sign. The distance between the top edge of a freestanding <br />sign and the lowest finished grade at its base. <br /> <br />Section 3.61.43. Historical Sign. A sign that was installed at least fifty (50) years <br />prior to the effective date of the ordinance adding this Article to the Code of the City of <br />Redwood City, or that reflects unique historical characteristics of the development and <br />heritage of the City, as determined by the Architectural Review Committee based upon <br />a recommendation by the Historic Resources Advisory Committee. <br /> <br />Section 3.6'1.44. Identification Sign. A sign that identifies, advertises or attracts <br />attention to a business, person, organization, product or service that currently occupies <br />or is available on the premises where the sign is located. <br /> <br />Section 3.61.45. Illegal Sign. A sign that was installed in violation of the sign <br />regulations that were in effect at the time of installation. <br />Section 3.6'1.46. Illumination. The use of an internal or external source of light to <br />make the message displayed on a sign more readable at night. <br /> <br />Section 3.6'1.47. Inflatable Sign. A balloon, blimp, gas-filled figure or other device <br />inflated to at least one (1) foot in diameter that identifies, advertises or attracts attention <br />to a business, service, person, organization, event or activity. <br /> <br />Section 3.61.48. Informational Sign. Any sign or notice that is required or authorized <br />by law and which complies with the requirements of the law. Informational signs <br />include but are not limited to legal notices, address signs and fuel price signs. <br /> <br />Section 3.6'1.49. Interior Sign. Any sign, other than a window sign, that is displayed <br />on the inside of a building. <br /> <br />Section 3.6'1.$6. Lot Frontage. A single lot line abutting a public right-of-way. On a <br />corner lot, the property line with the longest dimension abutting a public right-of-way <br />shall be the lot frontage. <br /> <br />Section 3.61.61. Master Sign Program. A document adopted by the Architectural <br />Review Committee that establishes general design parameters for all signs on a <br />property.
