JAN 9 1984 ORDINANCE ADDING SECTIONS 12.18.5 AND 12.18.6 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY PROVIDING FOR HAZARDOUS WASTE AND MATERIALS THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1: Sec~on 12.18.5 is hereby added to the Code of the " City of Redwood City to read as follows: "Section 79.101 of the fire code is hereby amended to read as ~. follows: Section 79.101. ( a) General. The storage, use, dispensing and mixing of flammable and combustible liquids shall be in accordance with this article, except as otherwise provided in other laws or regulations

<br /> l. All primary containment shall be product-tight and shall have <br /> overfill protection capacity. <br /> 2. Secondary containment shall comply with the following <br /> requirements: <br /> a. All secondary containment shall be constructed of materials <br /> of s-=tficient thickness, density, and composition so as not to be structurally <br /> " <br /> , <br /> weakened as a result of contact with the discharged hazardous materials and so <br /> as to be capable of containing hazardous materials discharged from a primary <br /> container for a period of time equal to or longer than the maximum <br /> anticipated time sufficient to allow recovery of the discharged hazardous <br /> material. <br /> b. In the event that the storage facility has only one primary <br /> container, the secondary containment shall have the capacity to contain at <br /> least 110 % of the volume of the primary container. <br /> c. In the even t that the storage,facility has more than one <br /> primary container, the secondary container shall have the capacity to contain <br /> 150% of the volume of the largest primary container placed in it, or 10 % of <br /> the aggregate internal volume of all primary containers in the storage <br /> facility, whichever is greater. <br /> 3. In the event that the storage facility is constructed of , <br /> lami na ted, coa ted, or clad materials, such construction shall not comDlv with <br /> the requirements of both primary and secondary containment. <br /> (c) Variance <br /> A variance from the requirement for secondary containment and/or <br /> moni tori ng of a new storage facility may be granted bv the City Council upon <br /> recommendation of the. Chief when: <br /> l. The requi rement of secondary containment creates an unusual and <br /> particular hardship; and .. <br /> (17) <br /> ~-" -"...- <br />
