CLK-Pamela Aguilar
From: Rachel Holt <rachelholt97@gmail.com>
Sent: Monday, October 28, 2019 3:08 AM
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: SB 1482
Honorable Mayor and Council -
I write to you this morning from our Nation's Capital after having spent last night at the WWII, FDR and Martin Luther
King, Jr Memorials. I am filled with awe and gratitude for those who have done so much, some with the ultimate
sacrifice, to protect this democracy and our human rights.
And my heart is also heavy for the work that is yet to begin.
Tonight at your meeting I ask that you adopt as an emergency ordinance SB 1482, recently signed into law by Governor
Newsom. I know you are aware of the nearly epidemic lack of affordable housing, regularly occurring economic
evictions and nearly non-existent renter protections that exemplify our current situation. Some of you very recently in
the last election talked about this issue as your concern for this community. Now is your chance to put your money
where your mouth is.
I am blessed to be a homeowner and have lived in Redwood City for nearly 20 years and I see my community being
seriously and negatively impacted by greedy landlords, greedy developers, with no end in sight. SB 1482 is but a start,
and there is already evidence of landlords doing what they can now to get around its protections set to begin January 1,
2021. Please adopt its protections now.
With gratitude for your service,
Rachel
Sent from my iPhone
