8.A. - Page 11 of 12
PUBLIC NOTICE
Public Notification was achieved by posting the agenda, with the agenda items being listed, at least 72
hours prior to the meeting. Additionally, the public notice was published in the local newspaper and sent
to via email to interested parties
ALTERNATIVES
As an alternative to the recommended approach, the City Council could consider a comprehensive,
Citywide General Plan update. This would be a much more significant endeavor, requiring more time and
resources. Similar to the recommended approach, the station area planning efforts would be the first
step, and staff would prepare a Request for Proposals (RFPs) for a visioning and engagement effort,
develop a work plan in spring of 2020 and present a proposal to the City Council in the summer of 2020.
Once a work plan is approved, the visioning and engagement exercise would likely require 12-18 months,
carrying through 2021 and would include preparation of an outcomes report that would inform a longer-
term strategy to update the General Plan. The final steps in the process to update the General Plan include
environmental review and drafting new language for the General Plan.
Finally, the City Council could decide to defer updating the General Plan to a future date. This could
increase the likelihood that the City would receive project proposals requiring General Plan Amendments
for an extended period of time.
ATTACHMENTS
Attachment A - Major Planning Policy Initiatives and Ongoing Planning Entitlement Applications
REPORT PREPARED BY:
Anna McGill, Acting Principal Planner
amcgill@redwoodcity.org
(650) 780-7278
APPROVED BY:
Mark Muenzer, Community Development & Transportation Director
Melissa Stevenson Diaz, City Manager
11 of 11
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
124
