Develop a balanced multimodal corridor to maintain and improve mobility of <br />people and vehicles along the corridor. <br />5. Manage parking assets. <br />6. Provide vibrant public spaces and gathering places. <br />7. Preserve and accentuate unique and desirable community character and the <br />existing quality of life in adjacent neighborhoods. <br />8. Improve safety and public health. <br />9. Strengthen pedestrian and bicycle connections with the corridor. <br />10. Pursue environmentally sustainable and economically viable development <br />patterns. . <br /> <br />Attachment 2 includes the full text of the GBI Guiding Principles, including Potential <br />Strategies for each. These Strategies are examples only and the City does not commit <br />to performing them as part of this approval. <br /> <br />The guiding principles relate to existing City plans. For example policies in the existing <br />General Plan that relate to the GBI Principles include, but are not limited to the <br />following: <br /> <br />. Land Use Policy L-3: Higher residential densities should be promoted at <br />locations near or within commercial and financial centers, employment centers, <br />and transportation terminals. <br />. Land Use Policy L-4: Commercial land should be distributed in a manner that <br />maximizes community accessibility to a variety of retail commercial outlets and <br />services and minimizes the need for automobile travel. <br />. Land Use POlicy L-6: The City should promote the revitalization, upgrading, and <br />beautification of the Downtown, other shopping centers, and existing strip <br />commercial areas. <br />. Public Transportation Policy PT -1: Identity and designate areas on arterial <br />streets that are used as bus routes, particularly EI Camino Real and Woodside <br />road that are potentially suitable for medium density residential and mixed use <br />development. <br /> <br />The Guiding Principles developed for the New General Plan are compatible with the <br />GBI Principles. City staff members working on the New General Plan are aware of the <br />GBI and will ensure that the New General Plan acknowledges the GBI and its <br />associated policies. <br /> <br />The recently adopted Downtown Precise Plan is also supportiV, of the Grand Boulevard <br />Initiative Principles and several of. the Downtown Preci~ Rlan Goals are briefly <br />highlighted below: . <br />
