<br />7A <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />. Create a network of great public places that encourage walking and lingering. <br />. Provide the choice of "convenience living." <br />. Integrate transit and bicycle use. <br />. Make pedestrians a priority. <br /> <br />The GBI recently completed its first competition for awards for projects and plans that <br />embody the Guiding Principles. The awards are designed to recognize communities <br />and developers that have taken significant strides towards upgrading elements of the <br />corridor. Redwood City received recognition for the Downtown Presise Plan from the <br />GBI as well as an award for the Villa Montgomery project. In addition, SamTrans, <br />C/CAG and VT A have awarded grants to projects on EI Camino. Those programs were <br />independent of the Grand Boulevard Initiative, but it is interesting to note the recipient <br />projects all parallel the Guiding Principles. There seems widespread agreement on the <br />traits of the Boulevard sought for the Peninsula and South Bay. GBI staff will continue to <br />seek funding to assist cities and counties with plans and projects that embody the <br />Principles. City staff will in turn seek funding from these sources for appropriate studies <br />and projects. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />Do not seek adoption of the Guiding Principles of the GBI for future plans involving EI <br />Camino Real.
